ABOUT
Hannah Hamilton is an American painter based in Paris. Trained with a BFA and shaped by years working in corporate America, she returned to painting.
Her large-scale paintings stage the appetites that run underneath ordinary life: desire, money, need, and the small manipulations we perform on each other and on ourselves. Rendered in saturated acrylic, her figures and forms hover between the seductive and the unsettling: a love bomb, a halo, cigarette money, animal greed.
Hamilton is interested in the gap between what we're promised and what actually arrives: the way faith in an outcome can shade into wanting, and wanting into hunger. Her work holds that tension without resolving it, suggesting that even our least flattering impulses are part of how meaning takes shape.
Influenced by Cy Twombly's belief that a mark can carry an entire emotional world, and Cecily Brown's refusal to be tidy, Hamilton's paintings sit somewhere between confession and punchline.
